Operation Annihilate… the title fits! We were smashed to pieces, run around all day and all because of poor leadership…
I was fighting on the Vendetta side for the first operation in Airborne Airsoft’s new Total War MilSim series. The storyline goes that the NATO forces have become somewhat tyrannical and are doing bad things, so the people of the UK have risen up and named themselves the Vendetta. Now the way Airborne Airsoft’s MilSim’s work is that they are player led, completely. We are given our orders from the Airborne Airsoft staff and it is up to us, as a team, to nominate an overall leader, plane and execute the missions. This MilSim event was probably one of the worst events I have experienced but I want to make it clear that this was in no way due to the event organisers. Unfortunately for the Vendetta side, our leader turned out to be anything but. Read on to find out more…
Our mission for this Op was simple. Get into the village of Longmoor and fight for, and control, as many buildings in the town for as long as possible. You loose 5 points for every death, and at the end of the day all the controlled houses are tallied up for points as well: The more houses you control, the more points you score.
The rules for this event are a limit of 8 magazines per person and only mid or low cap magazines to be used. Each squad must have a nominated medic who can carry extra bandages and each player must have a personal bandage on them at all times. If you are hit, you are to lay down and act as a casualty. At this point a member of your team can come to your aid and apply your own personal bandage to your body. Once completed you are back in the fight. If you are hit a second time, again you must lay down and act as a casualty, except this time only a designated medic can revive you by applying one if his bandages. After that you are again back in the fight. If you’re hit a third time you are now dead and it’s back off to the re-spawn. Of course you can negate all of this by bleeding out after 5 minutes if you wish, and grenades, which have a kill radius of 5 metres, kills you instantly, even if you’re waiting for a medic.
As I mentioned previously, we were smashed all day. At one point the NATO forces had us hemmed in at our own re-spawn area and all we could do we go out and try and fight an enemy that had more organisation and very slightly more manpower. To be honest though, the extra manpower would have made now difference as our organisation was the worst I had seen. Our team commander failed to give a clear brief, or any brief at all to be honest, and only myself and the Sinister 616 team actually turned up with working radios. This made communications next to impossible. Not only that but all of the Vendetta team were relatively new to the event. There was little to no cohesion between the teams, primarily because it was the first time we had all met.
Overall, the Operation Annihilate MilSim was an OK day, only salvaged towards the end by myself deciding to ignore the bad orders being given by our commander and doing our own thing. By doing this we were able to get right into the centre of Longmoor FIBUA village, for the first time that day, and start causing some havoc among the NATO forces. It was far too late for it to make any difference to the points for the day, but it was fun!
Will definitely be giving the Airborne Airsoft MilSim another shot because as I said, it was poor… make that very poor leadership that lost us the day.
Regroup and hit it again!
